A smart box holding a selection of important shots as for the most important competitions which Ferrari took place to with its Gran Turismo cars. Hereby the six available photos:
Barcelona 1996. Michael Schumacher, Ferrari F310
At this point, Schumacher had competed in six races for Ferrari since his arrival in Maranello and had yet to score a victory. But then in a downpour in Barcelona, the German’s star quality shone through as did his car’s potential, and they dominated the race. There was just a single moment of panic in the pits a few laps from the end when Schumacher suddenly declared 'Guys, there’s a problem' over the radio. But the tension was broke immediately when he added: 'You’d better remember to put on the heating next time, I’m freezing here...' That first victory would be followed by 71 others over the next 11 years.
Nürburgring 2000. Michael Schumacher, Ferrari F1-2000
Bouncing back after the accident that put him out at Silverstone in 1999, Schumacher sets his sights on a 2000 double World Title with 4 victories in the first 6 races. Here the men in red celebrate Michael’s success in the European Grand Prix at the Nürburgring. This epic story concludes with the final triumph in Japan, at the Suzuka circuit.
Suzuka 2004. Michael Schumacher, Ferrari F2004
With 13 Schumacher victories in 18 races and two other victories from Barrichello, Ferrari completely dominated the World Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships in 2004. This photograph captures Schumacher’s win in the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka. He had however, already won the Drivers’ title on points in the Belgian Grand Prix, three races earlier.
Istanbul 2007. Felipe Massa and Kimi Räikkönen, Ferrari F2007
In its first season without the iconic Schumacher, Ferrari found in Felipe Mass and Kimi Räikkönen two enormously talented drivers bent on success. After Räikkönen’s first victory in Australia and Massa’s in Bahrain and Spain, came further wins from Kimi in France and Britain. Then Istanbul brought the second one-two of the season with Felipe ahead of Kimi. This finish would garner precious points for the Constructors’ title which Ferrari would win in the last race of the season.
Spa Francorchamps 2007. Kimi Räikkönen, Ferrari F2007
Although its considered the toughest circuit in the World Championship, Spa is Kim Räikkönen’s favourite track and it was there that he took a victory that would be decisive in winning the World Drivers’ title. Behind him is Felipe Massa, marking the start of the final dash to the titles. Räikkönen would go on to win at Interlagos by a single point, after an incredible and ferocious comeback against his rival Lewis Hamilton.
Interlagos 2008. Felipe Massa, Ferrari F2008
In this shot, Massa is World Champion. Hamilton behind, hasn’t yet passed Timo Glock on the last bend, a move that will rob the Ferrari man of a vital point and cost him the title. The track was alternately dry and wet during the race and Massa had to win to take the title. Both the Brazilian and Räikkönen, who was watching his back, drove a textbook race. In the end however, it wasn’t enough. But the points lost out on by Massa in the controversial Singapore Grand Prix still rankle.
